Academic Coaching

Structured short term or ongoing support to improve time management, workload organization, and school success.

School can feel relentless, especially when assignments pile up and deadlines stack back to back.

Often, the challenge is not ability but the way students are expected to learn, organize, and manage time without clear structure. They understand the material but struggle to start tasks, stay organized, or follow through consistently.

Does your child's simple school tasks turn into daily battles, even with reminders and planning?

They are not alone. At Green Forest Therapy, we empower them to build structure and practical strategies that strengthen attention, working memory, and consistent follow through.

If your child faces these challenges, we can help:

  • Feel overwhelmed by school demands
  • Struggle to start or complete assignments on time
  • Have difficulty staying organized or managing time
  • Understand the material but struggle with execution
  • Have trouble prioritizing tasks or breaking down large project
  • Get distracted easily or lose focus during independent work
  • Avoid tasks due to frustration or low confidence

Academic Coaching runs in structured weekly sessions, typically two to three times per week. Our goal is to build lasting academic systems that students can carry into future growth, whether in school, college, university, or certification programs.

What a Typical Week Looks Like with Our Academic Coach

In each session, our coach focuses on one executive functioning skill. Time is split between understanding the skill and applying it to their current schoolwork.

Students put the skill to work immediately, so their coach can monitor progress and help them adjust their approach in the same session.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is an Academic Coach? How does Academic Coaching help students?

An Academic Coach is a professional trained in education who supports students in developing executive functioning skills that directly impact academic performance. Academic coaching is skill-based, structured, and goal-oriented, and is especially helpful for students who feel overwhelmed by schoolwork, struggle with organization or time management, attend tutoring but they don’t retain information or have difficulty performing in school.

At Green Forest Therapy, we have designed our Academic Coaching program to function like a focused skills group, where students build practical systems and learn to stay organized, manage schoolwork independently, and follow through on tasks with consistency.

Academic Coaching is delivered in structured sessions, typically two to three times per week. Support may be short-term and intensive or ongoing, depending on the student’s needs and level of executive functioning difficulty.

The first session kicks off with an assessment of your child’s executive functioning strengths and challenges. In the subsequent sessions, the coach helps them build and apply practical strategies directly to their current academic workload. Coaches guide them in organizing materials, planning assignments, managing deadlines, and strengthening follow through so skills develop beyond the session and carry into everyday school expectations.

Since academic coaching isn’t a regulated healthcare service, it isn’t covered by extended health insurance plans. Sessions are offered on a private pay basis. If your child is also receiving psychotherapy at our clinic, we can help you understand the difference between services and determine which option best fits your child’s needs.

Outcomes compound with consistency, but the first few weeks often bring noticeable shifts. Many students begin to show improved organization, clearer routines, and more willingness to complete tasks. Over time, you can expect better time management, lower academic stress, and less reliance on reminders. They also demonstrate greater independence in handling school responsibilities.

Yes. As a practice that specializes in support for ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, and executive functioning challenges, we design Academic Coaching with these learning profiles in mind. Many students understand the material but struggle with attention regulation, working memory, planning, and follow-through. During the first session, our coach takes time to understand how each student learns best and identifies the right strategies, structures, and supports that match their learning style and academic demands.
