Walk and Talk Therapy in Toronto

In-person therapy sessions held outdoors, where movement and nature create space to explore anxiety, stress, and difficult emotions.

Some people open up more easily when they are not sitting in a room, face to face with a therapist.

Walk and Talk Therapy takes the same structured, evidence-informed approach as traditional talk therapy and brings it outdoors. Sessions take place on foot or on a bench in a park in Toronto, at whatever pace feels right for you.

If these feel familiar, Walk and Talk therapy can help:

  • You are unable to attend virtual therapy at home
  • Find it difficult to open up in a traditional therapy setting
  • Movement helps you think and process thoughts better
  • Indoor spaces, screens, or eye contact you feel anxious
  • You spend most of your time indoors, and want to spend more time in nature

Before your first Walk and Talk session, new clients attend an intake session virtually. Your therapist will cover your background, the topics you want to work through, and practical logistics like what to do if you cross paths with someone you know.

Nature, movement, and mental health

Time in nature is linked to lower anxiety, better mood, and fewer repetitive thoughts that keep you stuck. It can help you with decision-making and self-reflection.

Your therapist guides the conversation with questions that help you reflect and work through the stress, emotions, and decisions you came in with.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Walk and Talk Therapy covered by insurance?

Yes. Walk and Talk Therapy is covered by most insurance providers as it is delivered by a registered psychotherapist. Green Forest Therapy also offers direct billing. To read more, visit our Fees, Insurance, and Billing page.

Being outdoors does involve some limits to confidentiality. Other people in the park may occasionally hear parts of the conversation, and there is always a chance you could cross paths with someone you know.

Your intake session is designed to remove some of these hurdles. Together, with your therapist, you create a clear plan for what topics are comfortable to cover outdoors and how to handle any situations that come up. Outside of that, sessions stay away from crowded areas, and your therapist remains bound by strict confidentiality and privacy laws at all times.

Sessions move online so you never have to cancel or reschedule.

Wear comfortable clothing and supportive shoes you can walk in. Bring a water bottle, sunscreen, and bug spray. Pack a light umbrella or rain jacket in case the weather shifts during your session.

Clients can book a 50 or 75-minute session, whichever feels right for you. To view available sessions, please visit this link. Sessions are hosted in Toronto.
