Anxiety

Anxiety is a natural response to stress that can manifest as feelings of worry, fear, or apprehension towards something in the future. It is a common experience that everyone faces at some point, if these feelings become persistent, excessive, and interfere with daily life, it may be indicative of an anxiety disorder. 

Types of Anxiety Disorders

 

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD):

    • Characterized by excessive, uncontrollable worry about a variety of topics, such as work, health, or personal relationships.
  • Panic Disorder:

    • Involves recurrent panic attacks, which are sudden episodes of intense fear accompanied by physical symptoms like heart palpitations, shortness of breath, and dizziness.
  • Social Anxiety Disorder:

    • Marked by intense fear or anxiety about social situations, leading to avoidance of social interactions or severe distress during them.
  • Specific Phobias:

    • Involves an intense, irrational fear of a specific object, situation, or activity, leading to avoidance behaviour.
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD):

    • Characterized by persistent, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviours or mental acts (compulsions) performed to reduce anxiety.
